Gout Home Remedies

Home remedies for gout are a useful way of alleviating the pain of mild conditions.

As you probably know, gout is a form of arthritis, and its origin lies in excessively high levels of uric acid in the bloodstream.

Unfortunately under certain conditions, uric acid will precipitate out as crystals around the cartilage of the joints of the extremities of the body – usually the hands and feet.

In response to these crystals, the joints become inflamed, causing serious and often unexpected pain that sometimes seems to come out of nowhere.

Home remedies for gout

A lot of people turn to home remedies for conditions like gout, and it’s worth exploring the possibility of help from this source it’s worth mentioning that there are some products which will reduce inflammation – in particular a certain type of tart cherry – but this is not actually a cure.

What the cherries do is to alleviate the inflammation, and they may not reduce the uric acid level in the blood, and they won’t dissolve or remove the crystals in the joints.

Having said that, if you’ve experienced an attack of gout, for instance in bed at night, you will be grateful for – and really want – any kind of relief you can get, whether it comes from medication or home remedies, and there’s no question that cherries work in reducing the pain.

Cherries – A Home Remedy For Gout That Works!

In fact, many sufferers have experienced blessed relief simply from taking concentrated cherry juice.

One of the benefits of gout home remedies of course is that home remedies tend to work particularly quickly, and they also tend to be free of side-effects, which certainly can’t be said of the classic medication which is prescribed for lowering uric acid in the bloodstream.

Hyperuricaemia – that is to say an excess of uric acid in the blood – is typically a condition which exists for many years before problems become apparent.

There are several natural home remedies that you might want to try to reduce the symptoms and pain of gout.

Some people are found apple cider vinegar to be rather helpful, but it’s billed as such a cure-all, that one suspects there is a mythology around it that might not be justified by its results.

Apple cider vinegar is good for gout

So you need apple cider vinegar, but you need a product which contains what’s known as the “mother” – the mother is composed of strands of proteins, enzymes, and friendly bacteria, all of which give the product kind of murky appearance – as I say, generally you’ll only get this in organic unfiltered apple cider vinegar.

Recommended dosage is 1 to 2 tablespoons in 8 ounces of water, and you can either take it all at once to sip it over a longer period of time. The claim is that this will reduce pain by 90% within two days – a pinch of salt might be needed here.

Far away the most reliable home remedy for gout is cherries – these are Montmorency dark cherries, and it’s best taken in the form of concentrated cherry juice which makes it easy to consume.

Each bottle of Cherry Active concentrate (you can search fro this online) is reputed to contain several thousand cherries – so you are certainly going to get good value for money!

The blog on arthritis.org talks about how cherries help to fight arthritis.

One of the most important aspects of their report is that they confirm that scientists really looking at cherries as a cure for gout – rather, a treatment for gout – because it actually works.

In a  study on 630 participants, Boston University medical researchers found that a mere 10 cherries a day – eaten raw –  would protect people with existing gout from further future attacks occurring again. In fact the risk was around 50% lower.

Although the work wasn’t a long-term study, the assumption is that the anthocyanins in cherries are responsible for acting as a natural home remedy for gout, because they have powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

A later study, conducted in 2014 and reported in the Journal of Functional Foods revealed that Montmorency cherry juice actually did reduce levels uric acid in the bloodstream, which is remarkable.

But I think the main benefit of using cherries as a gout home remedy is their proven power to reduce the inflammation in the joints.

Stoppress – cherries do indeed reduce both inflammation and uric acid levels – and here’s the proof!

I’d like to introduce you to some of the best dieting programs around.

There’s plenty of evidence that dieting, or rather, keeping your weight within safe limits, is a vital ingredient of maintaining good health in modern society.

dreamstime_s_31266299-compressedWe know that excess fat can cause cholesterol problems, but what you may not be quite so well aware of is that obesity is a major contributory factor to diabetes and heart disease. In fact, research has shown that you can shorten your lifespan by up to 10 years by maintaining a bodyweight several kilograms over your ideal weight.

Recently, the concept of body-mass index has been ridiculed as well in some quarters, because it is thought it’s been too stringently applied historically as a indicator of the ideal weight for men and women, and that in reality body-mass index (BMI) can be much higher than is traditionally been thought, while still maintaining good health.

Unfortunately, it’s hard to see this in the context of anything other than a campaign by obese individuals to, as it were, “let themselves off the hook”, a campaign which I can imagine would be only too readily backed up by the producers of fatty takeaway foods and sugar laden convenience and processed foods.

Let’s not deceive ourselves: this is a time to take individual responsibility for our health, along with many other aspects of our lives.

Indeed, it’s the lack of individual responsibility which has led the world into its current precarious state, and obesity might be considered by some to be an example of yet another way in which we (or at least some of us) abdicate our responsibility for our own welfare to those who are nominally “governing” our society.

What recent times have demonstrated is that those nominally governing our society are completely incapable of acting in the best interests of their citizens.

That includes many different aspects of legislation being passed which are simply a sop to the fast-food industry, as well as legislation being imposed on the production of individual supplements and nutritional supplements which people might choose to use to maintain their health.

We have, it seems to me, at one and the same time a “nanny state” which is pandering to the big corporations by restricting our freedoms, while at the same time purporting to tell us what is best for us.

And, regrettably, at the same time individual citizens are showing less and less responsibility and care of their own welfare. As the obesity epidemic confirms only too clearly.

Sure, this might only be my individual perception about what’s going on in the world, but I for one don’t feel I want to be a part of a society where people are simultaneously induced to eat large quantities of processed food that is manifestly bad for them (and in some cases might even be cancer inducing), while at the same time not taking responsibility for maintaining a good body BMI, and landing myself in difficulties with my health in the future.

To this end I’ve been looking on the Internet for some of the best products available for men and women  who wish to maintain an ideal weight, and I believe I’ve come up with two.

First and foremost, for men, where body-mass index is now being demonstrated not be quite as important in attracting women as was once thought, the Adonis Golden ratio seems to be the pick of the crop.

This is a program which is available online for download, containing information about dieting, nutrition, and exercise, designed specifically for men – who, as you may not be surprised to learn, have very different requirements in a diet than women do! This program allows you to engage in a process of losing weight or building muscle or both, as you choose.

For women, the exemplar of these programs appears to be the Venus Factor diet, which has been around for quite some time now, but still continues to be as popular as ever.

This is a program which women can use as a diet, or as a diet and exercise program combined, so its inherent flexibility means that it’s almost certainly going to be suitable for everyone.

If you’re not into strenuous exercise,  you won’t suffer: if you’re into dieting effectively, in a way that will help you to lose 12 pounds in 10 weeks, then this may well be the solution you’ve been looking for.

In any event, if you’re interested in taking responsibility for your health, then why not go and have a look?

Although gallstones are very common, two out of three people who have them tend to show no symptoms. It’s only when the stones get much larger than normal, or that are many of them, that problems start.

These problems can include pain in the abdomen, jaundice, inflammation, infection, and pancreatitis. In short, a serious case of gallstones is no laughing matter. But how do they form?

The Nature of Gallstones

As you may already know, bile is made in the liver for the purpose of removing breakdown products of red blood cells and other toxins produced in the body.

Bile is made in the liver and contains various breakdown products of red blood cells and bile salts – which are mostly compounds of calcium, cholesterol and lecithin.

It moves into tiny tubes known as bile ducts which join together and eventually discharge into the gut.

The gallbladder is a kind of pouch which is attached to the main bile duct. It stores bile which is squeezed out into the duodenum when we eat; its purpose is to help digest fatty foods.

Gallstones will develop when crystalline deposits form in the bile. In the majority of cases, gallstones are mostly made up of cholesterol and other material which is hard and calcified.

Sometimes this process may involve the formation of a few very large stones; sometimes it will involve formation of a large number of much smaller ones.

The risk factors include race and gender (European and American Indians tend to have more gallstones than other races, for example). Women, too, are more susceptible than men.

The genetic influence and the influence of diet for gallstones is not yet entirely clear.

We do know,  however, that certain medications promote the formation of gallstones; proton pump inhibitors for excess stomach acid – the cause of heartburn– are implicated here. They exert an influence by slowing down the activity of the gallbladder.

Let me explain: motility of the gallbladder is an important factor in preventing the formation of stones.

The more often the gallbladder contracts, and so empties its contents into the bile duct for discharge into the intestine, the less is the likelihood of stone crystallization.

Therefore anything that inhibits the muscular activity of the gallbladder is a risk factor.

Symptoms of Gallstones

Biliary Colic

This is a pain which develops in the upper right-hand side of the abdomen just below the ribs. The cause of it is a gallstone that has got stuck in one of the major ducts of the gallbladder.

As the gallbladder tries harder to squeeze to empty its contents, pain will be caused by the blockage.

Should this happen to be pushed out by the muscular contraction, or if it falls back into the gallbladder, the pain will ease. Such pain can last for a few minutes but generally it occurs over the course of several hours.

With gallstones you may also experience niggling pains after a fatty meal – which is when the gallbladder contracts most – or a more severe flareup from time to time.

Inflammation of the gallbladder is known as cholecystitis.

Symptoms include abdominal pain, possibly fever, a sense of being unwell, and they develop quite quickly. In general, this requires admission to hospital and removal of the gallbladder.

Jaundice is a comparatively uncommon affect gallstones, will happen when a gall stone comes out of gallbladder and gets lodged in the bile duct.

Table of home remedies

Since bile cannot pass into the gut, it will seep backwards into the bloodstream and cause jaundice. (Of course, jaundice is caused by many other conditions as well as gallstones.)

Another complication is pancreatitis. Inflammation of the pancreas is caused when the pancreatic duct (which joins the bile duct just before the duodenum) becomes blocked with a gall stone. Pancreatitis is a serious and unpleasant condition.

Diagnosis of Gallstones

Unsurprisingly, perhaps, his pain and tenderness in the upper right side of the abdomen as key indicators; the diagnosis would be confirmed with blood tests and possibly other investigations such as diagnostic x-rays, on which calcified gallstones will be visible.

Treatment of Gallstones

Ursodeoxycholic acid may be used, but it’s generally unsuccessful; its main use is prophylactic, perhaps in people who’ve had weight loss surgery and who are losing weight rapidly, which is a key cause of gallstones.

Generally however, surgery is the treatment preferred by the medical profession. And the most common way that this is undertaken is through laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Since this is keyhole surgery, only a few small cuts are needed, healing is rapid, and recovery quick. One incision is made for a camera telescope, another is made for medical instruments to remove the gallbladder.

People often wonder why it’s possible to remove the gallbladder if bile is a key component for the digestion of fats.

Generally speaking a normal diet for gallstones will cause no problem; occasionally there is  some mild abdominal pain or bloating, particularly after eating a meal high in fats.

Fungal Infections

Apparently the name “athlete’s foot” comes courtesy of an advertising man who was dreaming up some kind of advertising campaign in the 1930s!

Heaven knows what it might have been, because this infection has nothing directly to do with being an athlete.

In fact, athlete’s foot, or Tinea pedis, as it’s medically known, is a fungal infection caused by the Trichophyton fungus species. It causes redness, scaling, cracking and itching of the skin of the feet (sometimes the hands).

It can also affect the scalp or other parts of the body, and it sometimes appears as what we know as ”jock itch” (although this can also be caused by Candida albicans).

Tinea pedis – which is also known as ringworm –  is the most common skin infection, or lease the most common skin infection caused by a fungus.

And it’s actually more common in men than women, which probably reflects the kind of footwear that men and women wear. (Men, hot and sweaty shoes; women less so, yes?) This fungus thrives in the moist environment found in locker rooms and other such places.

Tinea pedis, i.e. athlete’s foot, is a very common fungal infection that most people have on their skin, although it is usually kept in check by the immune system and by other skin bacteria.

When it overgrows, and starts to cause problems, you might reasonably ask, can it be treated with a yeast infection home remedy?

What Causes Athlete’s Foot?

Only when skin is weakened, or it’s damp for much of the time, or the immune system is weakened, or something else compromises a person’s health, is it possible for athlete’s foot to spread out of control.

This can happen when someone is taking antibiotics, steroids, birth control pills, drugs to suppress immune function, and other medications, or perhaps when moist warm conditions have been affecting the natural environment of the feet for some time.

We’ve spent a lot of time on this website talking about home remedies for yeast infection, particularly in the form of Yeast Infection No More, and an obvious question is whether or not there are home remedies for yeast infection caused by the Trichophyton fungus, be it athlete’s foot, jock itch, ringworm on the skin, or ringworm on the scalp.

Video on athlete’s foot

At least athlete’s foot is generally not a troubling condition, only causing minor cracking and flaky skin, but it can sometimes causes blisters, and perhaps even cracks in the soles of the feet or between the toes. These can be very painful, and can cause secondary infection.

If the fungal infection affects the nails, then it’s much more difficult to get rid of, and prolonged treatment may be necessary.

Certainly in this case, yeast infection home remedies are unlikely to work.

Clearly this is a case where prevention is better than cure, and interestingly enough, most of the preventive measures you can take against athlete’s foot do include one or more forms of home remedy for yeast infection.

That’s especially true around things like diet.

However, I want to emphasize the point that infection with athlete’s foot is not the same as infection with Candida albicans, so the home remedies that you might want to apply are somewhat different.

So, as you might expect, there’s a home remedy for yeast infections as there is for so much else!

Some of them are simple precautions. To start with, athlete’s foot is passed on by contact with an infected person, or by touching a surface where the fungal spores are lying in wait, such as the moist environment of the locker rooms. So be careful not to spread the spores around!

Don’t suffer with acid reflux — use home remedies

Yes, although it may sound unconventional, the use of acid reflux home remedies can really solve these difficulties.

Yes those difficulties include acid indigestion, pain in the stomach, burping, belching, and other symptoms of acid reflux associated with hiatal hernia.

Here’s a video on hiatal hernia to explain what this means

Now I expect that not all of you will want to try manipulating your own hiatal hernia back into place, but it’s highly advisable, and it’s actually one of the simpler home remedies during this particular ailment.

Now hiatal hernia, as you may know, is associated with acid reflux, because the valve between the esophagus and the stomach does not function correctly.

The conventional medication provided for the acid reflux is proton pump inhibitors, also known as PPIs, which inhibit acid production in the stomach very effectively, and appear to cure symptoms.

However the problem with PPI’s is that they actually stop acid production which is necessary the good die gesture, and they do have some very serious side-effects which you can read about here

Side Effects of Prilosec (Omeprazole) Drug Center – RxList

So assuming that you would rather avoid such side-effects, the question is what you’re going to do about your acid reflux? I’ve already suggested that one way you can deal with them is to use home remedies, and it may well be that you want to go down this road.

Natural remedies for Acid Reflux

So the question arises then if you’re not going to use the medication that your doctor office you, what actually could you use as a natural home remedy for acid reflux?

Well, there are plenty of Home Remedies For Acid Reflux — and you can read about them if you click here.

In general, acid reflux is caused by either infection with Heliobacter pylori bacteria or buy a hiatal hernia which allows the excess acid in the stomach to move upwards into the oesophagus and burn the throat.

One of the highly recommended and home remedies rested reflex is Himalayan mountain soul, because in not only provides the chloride iron is necessary for the body to manufacture hydrochloric acid in the stomach at appropriate levels, but it also provides you with 18 micronutrients which are essential to human health.

You may have gathered by now that one of the problems with our modern world is the excessive processing of food which increases the levels of fat, sugar and salt, whilst removing much of what our forefathers might have called the “goodness”.

So if you want to take control your diet and your health, then one of the ways to do it is to find an Internet program which is full of acid reflux home remedies that have been demonstrated to succeed over time, and are proven to be effective in almost all cases of acid indigestion.

One of the programs that I recommend particularly is called heartburn no more, and the reason that I recommend this is because it actually has a holistic approach to medical care which actually can do you a world of good: it balances stomach acid, it enables you to find easy ways to stop drinking alcohol, to reduce stress, to get good sleep, and generally to get the supplementation and nutrition that is necessary in a healthy, balanced diet.

If you’re looking for a home remedy for acid reflux, I’ve given you recommendation above, you can click on each of the pictures to go to a different site which has something useful to say on the subject reducing excess acid in the stomach and indeed perhaps even curing hiatal hernia — you can see more about that in one of the videos above, as I’ve already said.
